The LaGuardia Community College Library is seeking applicants from diverse backgrounds for the position of Substitute Instruction Librarian. The Library’s approach to teaching is rooted in learner-centered pedagogy and critical inquiry, guided by LaGuardia’s core competencies and the ACRL Information Literacy Framework. Our focus is on teaching transferable information literacy concepts and cultivating inclusive learning environments.
The candidate will participate in the Library’s one-shot, course-related information literacy classes and drop-in workshops for students, faculty and staff. Responsibilities may include, as assigned:
- Teaching of classes
- Scheduling of instruction
- Development of teaching materials
- Experimentation with various models for the delivery of library instruction
- Open Education Resource support within and outside of the Department
Candidate will also provide one-on-one research assistance at the Reference desk; contribute to collection development by serving as liaison to one or more academic departments or programs; and participate in the work of committees of the Library, the College, the University, and professional organizations. This position is a six-month appointment with the possibility to be renewed for up to two years.
For Assistant Professor designations: ALA-accredited MLS degree, plus second master’s degree or doctorate.
For Instructor designation: ALA-accredited MLS degree.
At least one year of relevant experience, which may consist of academic library experience and/or experience in other teaching or research positions;
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels in a collegial, collaborative environment;
Professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion;
Teaching experience preferred;
Experience creating engaging learning opportunities for students, faculty, or community audiences;
Supervisory and assessment experience a plus.
Instructor salary range: $39,399 – $61,043
Assistant Professor salary range: $42,873 – $74,135
Commensurate with education and experience.
