The Library Department is dedicated to educating one of the most diverse student populations in the country and supporting research efforts among the College’s students, faculty, staff, and neighboring community. In a rapidly evolving society, information literacy is an essential part of becoming a critical thinker and a socially responsible citizen. Information literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information, informed by an understanding of the cultural, political, and economic factors that shape and create information.
The Library Department cultivates information literacy in the LaGuardia community by serving the curricular, co-curricular, research, and career needs of the College’s students, faculty, and staff. The Library also builds and provides access to dynamic physical and digital collections, including Open Education Resources; preserves materials related to the College’s history; and creates a supportive environment for study, inquiry, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
