Enter the library ebooks contest! Prizes! Deadline extended to Oct. 15

The Library is sponsoring a contest to highlight our e-book collection, and everyone is invited to enter. Here's a chance to win some great prizes and learn about e-books in the Library. Faculty members can use it in the classroom to introduce students to the Library' website and to CUNY+. Deadline extended to October 15. Good luck!

Find the answers to the questions on the entry form and become eligible to win one of our 3 PRIZES (Each winner will also receive a 1GB flash drive.):

  1. Grub: Ideas for an Urban Organic Kitchen by Opening Sessions speaker Anna Lappe and eco-chef Bryant Terry (signed copy).
  2. Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating with More Than 75 Recipes by cookbook author and New York Times columnist, Mark Bittman.
  3. Food Rules: An Eater's Manual by award winning food and agriculture writer, Michael Pollan.

Contest Rules:

  • Open to LAGCC students, faculty & staff. (Library faculty & staff are not eligible to win.)
  • Answer ALL of the questions correctly and you will be entered in the drawing to win one of the 3 prizes.
  • Write your name and email address CLEARLY at the top of the entry.
  • Only one entry per person.
  • Drop your completed entry in the box at the Reference Desk in the Library by Friday, October 15. Winners will be notified by email.

Short Takes on Literature / Ebooks contest

Short Takes on Literature program is back!

This fall one of the longest running, no-credit, no papers programs continues to offer informal discussion of short stories.This semester we will be reading the short stories by Women Writers of the Southern States. All meetings in the Library Conference Room, where good discussions and refreshments will be available.

Library closing at 4:45 pm on Tues. 9/21/10; Commencement day

The library will close at 4:45 pm on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Please remember that day and evening classes are not in session on Tuesday, September 21. Congratulations to the 2010 graduates!

Food for thought: Common Reading site and Ebook Contest

Check out the Common Reading site for Fast Food Nation. It includes some great useful features like: study guides, bibliographies, timeline and examples of student ePortfolio projects. It can be found via the library's homepage > Find a research guide by topic > Common Readings.

Library Closed, Sept. 4-6; Open on Tues. Sept. 7

The Library will be closed during the Labor Day weekend (Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, 2010). We will be open next week, Tues. Sept. 7 through Fri. Sept. 10, from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm.

Regular library hours resume on Sat. Sept. 11. Enjoy the last summer weekend.
